On-Line Manual for 2007-2008
"SSV Captain's TennisSoft©"
Software (version = 2.71)
Introduction:
The SSV Captain’s TennisSoft©, formerly called SSV Captain’s Tennis Team Management System©, is a MicroSoft® Visual Basic® (version 6) program which uses MicroSoft® Excel-XP® Home Edition (some problems occur with Professional Edition) forms to display and print.
The Visual Basic® program is embedded in Macros within Excel®. Because of the functions used within the Visual Basic®, Windows-XP® and Excel-XP® are required. The program may run under earlier versions of Windows® and Excel®, but spurious errors will plague your activities and since some of the programmed functions are not supported, accuracy in calculations cannot be guaranteed.
When loading the SSV Captain’s TennisSoft© you may get an error message (each version of windows Excel gives you a different message) which basically tells you that the file contains macros, would you like to start with the macros enabled or disabled? Respond with “enabled”. You may get this message every time you load unless you change the security level from high to medium or low. To do this, process the following Excel® directions:
What does the SSV Captain’s TennisSoft© do?
The SSV Captain’s TennisSoft© gives you, the captain, the ability to:
Have an electronic worksheet to make team pairings and coordinate with your opponent.
Print the complete weekly player assignment sheet for the bulletin board.
Print a Match Play Log (with player names, round and court assignments) for the competition.
Print all of the Score Sheets (with names, teams, court, and round assignments)
Easily enter and save statistics with one entry of scoring information.
Print formatted Individual Statistics (with consolidated performance and detail listings)
Print formatted Team Statistics for officer evaluation.
Plus team management tools:
View individual Position Play Analysis (Performance at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and Mixed Positions).
View both Men and Women Teaming Play Analysis (Performance as paired with other teammates).
After the scores have been entered from the electronic Match Play Log, one mouse click is required to “move” the data into statistics, where you can easily display each individual’s scores and cumulative statistics with automatic win percentages at the first level and all play.
Installation:
How to put the SSV Captain’s TennisSoft© on your Personal Computer.
Receive the “SSV Captain’s TennisSoft©” file (SSV CTTMS 270.XLS attached to the E-Mail message from RSchuler@Cox.net).
Save the file to “My Documents”
Make a copy of this file with another name so that you have an original (virgin) copy to fall back on if everything goes wrong.
Look around and experiment:
The SSV Captain’s TennisSoft© comes with some bogus data entered to allow you to play around and see what it can do before you enter any real data.
Follow this manual with the bogus data, print some forms and reports, look at the statistics, and understand the results, but do NOT save the file with anything messed up. If something happens and stuff looks really messed up, just exit MS Excel without saving. When you re-enter the application it will be just like it was before you messed it up.
SetUp for your team:
When you feel comfortable with the application you must personalize your system and SAVE it. If you accidentally save a messed up application, just follow the previous directions to install the system (The computer will tell you that the file already exists and ask you if you would like to replace it, answer YES and you will be ready to start again.)
"SetUp" on the Team Form only works once, after the first time it turns itself off.
"SetUp" on the Competition Day Form only works once each week, it is reset after the each finalization.
The “Main Menu” Form:
The Main Menu Form is the “home” page of the system. Click on the bright green areas on the menu to GoTo or Accomplish tasks in the system. All bright Green areas with Hollow / Outlined Characters are Click-type ICONS, on all Forms.
The “Team” and “Competition Day” Forms:
Please do NOT use “CUT” or “MOVE” MS-Excel® functions within this software application. You may use and I highly recommend the use of “COPY” and “PASTE” to save your typing stamina and to ensure the spelling of home player’s names. Your teams’ player names are listed about one page down on your Competition Day Form. Be careful to spell your team members’ names correctly each time you type.
Please make all permanent additions to your team on the Team Form, do not remove any team members from the Team Form if they have played any matches, the names on the Team Form are used by all other forms in this software application. Temporary additions (move ups) are only made on the Competition Day Form (their play is not recorded on the year end reports delivered to EVSTL.
(Rich Schuler, Richard Schuler, and RichSchuler are three different individuals when extracted to statistics).
The Team Membership listed on the Team Form is the only place you should update since all other forms pull name information from this list. Make sure all names are spelled correctly before any finalization is accomplished.
The Competition Date is the date the competition will be played. It is needed for the Weekly Player Assignment sheet, the Match Play Log, and statistics.
The Start Time is the time the competition will be played, the Meet Time is the time the team needs to report to the courts. They are needed only for the Weekly Player Assignment sheet.

The Opposing Team Abbreviation is the opposing team abbreviation. It is needed for the Weekly Player Assignment sheet, the Match Play Log, the Score Sheets, and statistics.

The Opposing Team Co-Captain’s name and phone number are needed for the Match Play Log. If you do not have this information, leave it blank.
The Home Team Players should be “COPY”ed from the Team Roster to ensure on-going proper spelling. The roster can be found by pressing “Page Down” while displaying the Input Page.
The Position and Level define whether the match will be Men’s (#1, #2, #3, or #4), Women’s (#1, #2, #3, or #4), or Mixed Doubles.
(“M” and “1” for Men’s #1, “M” and “2” for Men’s #2, “M” and “3” for Men’s #3, “M” and “4” for Men’s #4, “W” and “1” for Women’s #1, “W” and “2” for Women’s #2, “W” and “3” for Women’s #3, “W” and “4” for Women’s #4, “M” and “D” for Mixed Doubles)

The Round, and Court fields are optional fields, if you know which round or on which court the match will be played, enter the number, if you are unsure, then leave it blank and the Match Play Log and Score Sheets will have an empty space on which to write at match time. These fields are only used in the Match Play Log and Score Sheets.
After match play, enter the Set Scores for each team (1st Set, 2nd Set, and Tie Breaker, if played) and the system will calculate the Team Score and Final Team Total. (Verify that your Match Play Log from the match is correct.)
